Revenge of the Capricorn (PvP Map)
Revenge of the Capricorn is a Guild Wars 2 PvP map that I took from initial design spec to public release. The original design brief was to create a brand new map for Guild Wars' "Conquest" game mode (i.e. point capture and defense). Upon considering the direction to take with the map, I decided to expand the goals of the brief to include two other points:
- Give the map a unique gameplay mechanic to differentiate it from our existing maps.
- Recycle the aesthetic/assets of a map which was no longer in the game, "Raid on the Capricorn," in order to streamline the new map's production and best leverage the assignment's limited resources for new art.
Guild Wars 2’s “PvP Leagues” feature brought a full progression system and competitive seasons to Ranked GW2 PvP. Along with other PvP team members, I helped co-design the core progression functionality (i.e. victory / loss effects), the UI/UX flow, and the reward loops for the feature. I also provided input on the matchmaking/ranking algorithms used to ensure that players would have a consistent and fair experience in ranked play.
